Should i send my child's father money..he's in jail?

He treated me very wrong when we was together, but i fill kind of sorry for him. He has two charges of assault one and two. This looks like it's going to be serious. he doesn't know that im aware of his imprisonment and he's currently awaiting for a court date. His parents are also keeping the situation away from me as well. If i send him money, i would most likely do it anonymously. Should i do this or stay out of it?
