Should i contact her or leave her?

I met a girl and feel in love with her I did not mean to we started out friends and it just happened she was dating someone at the time I feel for her but stupidly told her how I felt anyways she told me she had the same feeling but didn’t want to hurt the guy she was with she ended up breaking my heart but I could see she was in a lot of pain she wanted me to hate her so I could move on and I could see tears in her eyes when she insulted me we lost contact for about 6 months and I was thinking of contacting her just to see if she is happy but not sure if that would upset her make her happy or what to say I’m not looking to go out just want to know she is happy that’s all but it seems risky what do you think
