How did al capone avoid imprisonment?

I know he is responsible for 300+ murders, but he was never convicted of any of them. Im writing a paper on him, and want to thoroughly explain how he avoided the authority for as long as he did. Also with bootlegging alcohol too. I know a few other mobsters of his era did the same thing, and they got caught. but what were his techniques? anyone know?
