Do you think - surgical castration(removal of both the testicles) is ethical to punish crimes?

Some countries like Czech Republic offers castration to violent murderers, rapists and pedophiles. This way, the criminals can save themselves from life imprisonment. Do you think this practice is ethical and effective? If you think so, give your reasons. Personally, I'm against it. What about human rights?
